The Calabogie Medical Centre

Updated: 2 years ago - Created: March 24th, 2010

The Calabogie Medical Centre was built in 1976 as a joint project of the Calabogie Lions Club and the Townships of Bagot and Blythfield. Since then, it has provided primary medical care for residents of Calabogie and surrounding areas.

There are currently two physicians working part time at the clinic:
Dr. Max Buxton and Dr. Kristian Davis.

Dr. Buxton is a graduate of the Carleton University (BSc '80) and of Queen's (MD '84). He has been working at the clinic since 1985.

Dr. Davis obtained both a masters degree in pharmacology and a medical degree from McMaster. He began work in Calabogie in 1999.

Both doctors have completed postgraduate training programs at the University of Ottawa and are certified Family and Emergency physicians. Both have admitting privileges at the Renfrew Victoria Hospital, and integration of services with that institution is a vital link in the provision of comprehensive healthcare.

Debbie Boyer is the office manager.
Erin Prentice provides specialty nursing, such as flu shot clinics.
Sheila McBride operates a satellite clinic of MDS laboratories every Thursday morning from 8:15 to 11:00 A.M.

Despite the presence of two physicians, Calabogie remains an under-serviced area in terms of medical manpower. The community is growing rapidly and demand outpaces our ability to provide services. As a consequence, much of the time we may be unable to accept new patients. This may change intermittently as some patients move away from the area, and we are involved in ongoing efforts to recruit new doctors to the area.

Consultations are by appointment and can be arranged by calling the office at (613) 752-2323.
